Our Midway area was heavily damaged during civil unrest and businesses across Saint Paul were also impacted. All donations are tax-deductible and will provide direct support for rebuilding efforts.
As we work to allocate and distribute these funds, we will focus on helping the hardest-hit and most vulnerable businesses in our community, which disproportionately includes immigrant and POC-owned businesses.

To date, this fund has received contributions from more than 950 companies and individuals, with more than 85% of donations coming from donations less than $250 from generous individuals in our community. Millions in public, private aid help in rebuilding St. Paul's riot-damaged Midway and more in detail in this recent feature. Our GiveMN page total reflects individual donations (of $255,324), and we are pleased that total donations (including organizational donations as of March 15, 2020) are $1,360,000. We want to thank the James J. Hill Center for it's initial gift of $50,000 that seeded the fund and also to Travelers who matched donations dollar for dollar up to $200,000 received after June 15, 2020 and gave the fund an additional $50,000. The travelers challenge grant was part of the company's $1 million commitment to assist nonprofits dedicated to advancing racial equity across the country and rebuilding damaged businesses in Minnesota. As of March 15, 2021, we have distributed $975,000 to 80 small businesses & organizatons that were damaged by unrest or had to close due to unrest following the tragic death of George Floyd. The damaged businesses were located across the City of St. Paul with the bulk of the businesses being located in the Hamline/Midway Area of University Avenue. Thank you to all businesses and individuals who have contributed to this effort. Businesses are still in need (and there may be a future need given the upcoming trials of the former officers involved in the death) and we will continue raising money for the near future. |
