Saint Paul’s State of the City: Rising Together​​​

Mayor Her’s inaugural State of the City made one thing clear: Saint Paul is being led with steadiness, collaboration, and purpose.

Reflecting on the first 100 days, Council President Noecker summed it up well: “Mayor Her is showing up collaboratively, representing, listening. The state of the City is strong.” Mayor Her herself noted that, though “you rarely know what you’re stepping into,” she wanted to set a tone of calm presence and care—grounded in an understanding that our community, government, and business sectors are deeply connected and must function as a shared ecosystem.

As we all know, that leadership was tested almost immediately. Within her first week, the city was navigating Metro Surge—bringing profound public safety challenges and an estimated $129M in lost revenue over just two months, with some businesses experiencing losses of up to 60%.

Yes, Land Use Is Sexy (and pays the bills)​​​

I learned many things during my time at the Port Authority—chief among them just how critical strategic land use is to a city’s fiscal “bottom line.” The Saint Paul Port Authority’s newly updated analysis of the city’s industrial sector drives that point home. Dare I say, it’s sexy.
 
The report analyzes all industrially zoned land in Saint Paul and compares it to commercial and residential uses. The takeaway is clear: industrial land is the city’s most efficient generator of property tax revenue and a powerful engine of economic impact. Put plainly, industrial jobs create economic mobility, financial resilience, and long-term affordability for the city as a whole.

You serve on Chamber boards and committees, invest time and resources toward job creation, quality of life, workforce development, and marketing goals of the region’s economic and community development strategy.
EXECUTIVE MEMBERSHIP
Best suited for a larger company, with more than 100 employees, seeking leadership opportunities within the Chamber and the region. Along with board service opportunities, you are interested in giving back to the Chamber and region through this higher investment level.
DIRECTOR MEMBERSHIP
Best suited for the company on the move, seeking a higher profile and opportunity to demonstrate investment in the region. At this level of investment or higher, you have the opportunity for multiple listings in the Member Directory, and can serve on the Chamber’s Board of Directors or the Chamber’s Charitable Foundation Board.
PRINCIPAL MEMBERSHIP
This member is a small business or nonprofit — potentially with multiple locations. In our member directory, you receive two category listings, as well as a more complete business description, giving other members a better idea of what your organization offers. Your financial ROI only scratches the surface of the true rewards of membership. You’ll access information that grows business, expands knowledge, and contributes to your growth professionally and personally.
ENTREPRENEUR MEMBERSHIP
Best suited for the “solopreneur” or small business/nonprofit, single location. You are looking for Chamber access, marketing/promotional exposure, and new business. That’s what we are here for!
