Businesses Thrive in the Saint Paul/East Metro area!

In today’s wireless global economy, businesses can locate almost anywhere in the world.  Fortunately, more than 31,000 companies have chosen to locate in the Saint Paul/East Metro area creating more than 570,000 jobs and millions of dollars in economic activity to our community. 

But what keeps these firms here?  The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce conducts an annual business retention survey of companies in the region and reports that the key competitive advantage cited is the unprecedented quality of life and quality of the workforce.  These competitive strengths help retain businesses here and are important for attracting companies in an increasingly mobile economy.

The July-August 2006 issue of Expansion Management magazine has ranked the MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL-BLOOMINGTON metro area as No. 2 in its 4th annual ranking of "America's Top Business Opportunity Metros for 2006," based upon the results of this year's annual MAYOR'S CHALLENGE rankings of the overall business climate and attractiveness to growing companies from throughout the world.

Entrepreneur magazine called the Twin Cities the nation’s best place to operate a small business.

Expansion Management ranked the Twin Cities 13th among the nation’s metro regions based on logistics-supporting infrastructure and well-trained workers in transportation industries.

State Policy Reports rank Minnesota first in the country in job-based assets, second in human capital assets, and third in financial assets.

The Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis were ranked as the world’s #1 "knowledge economy," by a United Kingdom consulting firm, Robert Huggins Associates.

According to Business Facilities (November 2004), Minnesota ranked #13 of the 50 states as a top place to locate a biotechnology business. The formula used calculates the states biotech industry employment versus the national average. Minnesota is considered a leader and model for other states. Minnesota also rated #2 in the Medical Devices & Equipment sub-sector.
